Yesterday we reported on Hot Toys surprise announcement that they were releasing a figure based on Nicholas Hammond's Spider-man.
No sooner that we had absorbed the news and studied the images the eagerly awaited, and limited to 600 units, figure was put up for sale and SOLD OUT!
The shock sale has understandably left the majority of fans that wanted one dissappointed.
The question is now - will a second issue of figures be made available...and more importantly, wil they fix some of the glaring mistakes fans have pointed out. Things such as:
- The shape of the figure's head (mainly the jaw) and the alignment of the webbing.
- The design of the webshooter (which was based on a fan creation and not the actual one from the series).
- The tea-strainer eye lenses (again, based on a horrible fan creation).
- The lack of boots and gloves.
- No headsculpt of Nicholas Hammond.
- The raised and reflective webbing.
- The "3D" eyes.
For a company like Hot Toys who is renowned for their accurate recreations, it seems a little strange that they made the above mistakes. I'd invite them to reach out to the fan community - there are plently of us who can advise on the costume.
As for additional releases, we reached out to Sideshow Collectibles but an AI bot informed us that there will not be a re-stock of the figure... so, go figure!
Even if you weren't able to secure a purchase, we do need to show support for this so that more will get made. Join the wish list at Sideshow Colllectibles - https://www.sideshow.com/collectibles/marvel-spider-man-hot-toys-914844
